Once you have seen aggression being displaced
There is no way to un-see the animal
Lurking behind the happy human face.
Even a big baboon would feel disgraced
To let emotions cease phenomenal
Progression, keeping everyone in place.
This happens without thinking but takes thinking
To notice and redress and, feeling stress,
Set it aside with willful distancing,
Kind of like telling you to take your stinking
Paws off and pause the progress of distress.
This is still animal, a stranger thing
Than turning the other cheek among the meek.
It is a function of the hierarchy.
Only the dominant can break the streak.
